ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin said in order to stop the decline in the value of rupee, the exports would have to be increased and imports would have to be brought down.

While talking in a programme of a private TV late Saturday night, he said the rupee will continue to lose its value if there in no balance in the country’s exports and imports.

He said the government will have to devalue the rupee if the inflation is not brought under control. He said the rupee will continue to lose its value if there is no balance in the country’s exports and imports.

He said the government should cut the size of the cabinet and it would be better if their number reduced to 30.

He said there is overlapping in the portfolios of several ministries which has led to the increase in the number of ministers.

Shaukat Tarin said he was in favour of trade with India in order to reduce the gap between our imports and exports.

Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin categorically denied that he was going to tender his resignation. There was no interference in his ministry and he enjoys full support of the Prime Minister, he added.
