According to the data released by the Commercial Wing of Pakistan High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Pakistan emerged amongst top five exporting countries of eight products to Malaysia in the year 2008 and 2009.
According to the data, Pakistan occupied first position in export of Woven Fabrics of Synthetic staple to Malaysia with 30.53 percent share amongst the top five exporters valuing at around RM12.91 million, whereas, China with 26.54 percent and Indonesia with 23.43 percent share took 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
Pakistan occupied 2nd position in export of Oil Cake and other solid residues with 13.26 percent share valuing at RM3.6 million and forth position in export of Un-denatured Ethyl Alcohol with export share of 10.98 percent valuing at RM3.5 million.
Pakistan occupies third position amongst the top rice exporting countries to Malaysia with total share of 4.1% valuing at around RM110.97 million amongst the five top exporting countries, whereas, Thailand with 45.91 percent and Vietnam with 34.68% share occupied 1st and 2nd place respectively.
Data also revealed that Pakistan occupied 3rd position in potatoes import by Malaysia with 7.04 percent share valuing at RM11.28 million, whereas China with 69.27 percent and USA with 9.29 percent took 1st and 2nd position respectively.
In bed linen sector, Pakistan occupied 4th position with total share of 14.96% valuing around RM17.01 million whereas 1st position was occupied by China with 33.89% and 2nd by Turkey with 15.38% share.
In the woven fabrics of cotton, Pakistan stood at 5th position with 6.04 percent share, whereas, China with 35.51 percent and Taiwan 20.66 percent share took 1st and 2nd position respectively.
In the frozen fish sector, Pakistan stood at 5th position with a total share of 7.5 percent valuing at 36.61 percent whereas China with share of 17.5 percent and Indonesia 11.99 percent took the first and second position respectively.
The Commercial Counselor of Pakistan High Commission, Wajiullah Kundi while commenting on the data said that the Pakistan can further increase its export to Malaysia by employing skilled labour force in relevant industries, carrying out more value addition in products, employing advance technology in the work processes and focusing on innovative products.
He further added that Pakistani exporters should also maintain higher quality standard, brand their products and should aggressively market their products with the foreign markets specially Malaysia.
He urged the exporters and importers of Malaysia and Pakistan to fully exploit the reduction in duties, taxes, tariff and levies which have came into effect after signing of Malaysia Pakistan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (MPCEPA) in November, 2007 to bring about quantum jump in the existing level of bilateral trade between the two brotherly countries.
